Whitemud Equine Learning Centre

A stable community. Growing.

For more than two decades, Whitemud Equine Learning Centre Association (WELCA) has been quietly helping to develop people of strength and contributors to the Edmonton community. Through our equine-related activities, we will increase our role in creating a better quality of life for all Edmontonians.

WELCA provides easy access for anyone wishing to discover the joys of equine activities, and to those who wish to rekindle their love for horses. Our centrally located services help young people develop self-confidence and self-esteem. The horses of WELCA are instrumental in providing therapeutic services for people living with mental health issues or physical disabilities. We provide learning opportunities for students of all ages, whether it is for veterinarian studies or learning an equine sport. We help urbanites gain a better understanding of life at a stable, right in the heart of the city.

WELCA provides programs to approximately 1,000 visitors each week. Our different horse riding programs are available at various levels to the general public, school groups, and people with disabilities. We make all this possible using our own herd of horses, including some which are kindly loaned or donated to us.

Our new facility at our existing site on Fox Drive is integrated into the beautiful heritage setting of the Keillor Farm. Our mission is one of contributing to a stronger community, both locally and globally. Future plans include the development of a world-class equine learning center allow more Edmontonians and people from all over the world to come to study horses and learn about their special relationship with people.

WELCA does not rent horses to the public, provide one-time rides or trail rides.
WELCA also does not take donations of apples or carrots for the horses.
